Mensagem da "Greenpeace", por email

Recebido por email, de GREENPEACE!
Hi Maria Elisa,

Something historic happened at the weekend: nearly 200 countries came together to sign a global agreement to fight the worst effects of climate change.

This didn't happen in isolation, it didn't happen without a fight, it happened because of people power. It happened because people took to the streets as well as their personal computers to tell our leaders – the time for inaction was over.

But of course the agreement is worthless if governments don’t walk the walk, too. And here in the UK the government simply isn't taking decisive enough action to keep us safe.

Tell David Cameron that the time for talking is over, and the time to invest in renewable energy is right now.

The deal agreed in Paris is far from perfect, but it has changed the direction of travel fundamentally.

The new goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by the second half of the century as agreed in Paris effectively means we need to phase out fossil fuels by 2050. It's an achievable goal but we need to act now to avoid the worst effects of climate change such as the flooding we've seen recently. And that's why we need to invest in cleaner, greener energy.

We all know that making promises is the easy part; acting on them is what we should judge this government on.

Please tell the prime minister that we won't stand for hot air, tell him to act immediately.

Last week, vast swathes of the UK were underwater. Buckling from the strain of torrential rain rivers had overflowed and flood defences were breached. Hundreds of families were forced to evacuate their homes.

The recent floods are more likely in a warming world. To reduce these risks we must act in the UK and globally to cut our use of coal, oil and gas, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

There’s no time to waste, and no more communities to put at risk.

Tell David Cameron to accelerate the roll out of clean energy now!

Thanks for all that you do
Aakash
