At 8:53 p.m., the Dallas Police Department posted a note on Twitter, announcing that 10 officers had been shot. Three of the officers were dead.

Twenty minutes later, a second message appeared: a fourth officer had been killed. Then, just after midnight, came a third and final message: a fifth officer was dead.
